Dennis Phan Dennis Phan is a fixture at the U.S. Championships. Over the past decade, he has competed at the annual championships nine times including five times at the senior level and another four times as a junior. Phan won the pewter medal in the novice men's competition at the 2000 U.S. Championships. Skating before a hometown crowd in Dallas, Texas, Phan won the junior men's gold medal at the 2003 U.S. Championships. His results on the senior level include 14th (2004), 16th (2006), 13th (2007) and 10th (2008). He also finished and 11th at the 2009 U.S. Championships. He missed the 2005 U.S. Championships, also the qualifier for the 2005 World Junior Championships, because he sprained his ankle and tore a ligament less than a month before nationals. Phan's success is not limited to national competition. In 2004, he finished seventh at the World Junior Championships. He won the Junior Grand Prix Final after finishing first at the Junior Grand Prix in Long Beach and second in Ukraine. Phan finished first at 2003 Gardena Spring Trophy, seventh at 2005 Skate America, sixth at 2006 Karl Schafer Memorial and eighth at 2008 Nebelhorn Trophy. A member of the All Year Figure Skating Club, Phan currently trains in Culver City, Calif., with coach Tammy Gambill. He hopes to become an optometrist after finishing his skating career. |
